Customer testimonials & review quotes

…Joined by my best friend for a girly treat to celebrate her recent birthday, on the crisp Autumnal morning of our visit we arrived to discover a completely unique environment: a retreat housed in a characterful converted country house with exposed beams, gorgeous fireplaces and a warm homely feel. Instantly I had an inkling that this unique haven and its combination of my two passions – pampering and cosiness -could become a firm favourite.

After changing into comfy fluffy robes, we were treated to a welcoming hand and foot ritual to ease us into a relaxed mindset. The simplicity of the therapists’ light, delicate touch on dry skin succeeded in melting away the stresses and strains of the recent working week and quietening our minds. Though this sort of attention to detail is often overlooked in your average spa, Eastthorpe’s holistic approach to treatments ensures that as much emphasis is put on emotional health and wellbeing as the physical benefits associated with such therapies…

…Awaiting us in the lovely conservatory kitchen was Eastthorpe’s delicious signature healthy virgin cocktail and a mid morning snack; I enjoyed a warm croissant with lashings of butter and jam, while my friend munched on her requested tasty wheat free toast and fruit. Were it not for the knowledge that a wonderful buffet lunch was but an hour away – prepared by the award winning in-house chef and considerately tailored to guests’ specific allergies and intolerances – we would almost have been reluctant to head off for our treatments.

From Tales of a Beauty Journo – November 2011

It is impossible not to feel the stresses of day to day craziness fall away as you step into the sumptuous wood panelled surroundings and I am sure the doorstep is laden heavy with the worries left there routinely by clients before their entering in.

A stunning property with restored original features, open fires, deep squishy sofas and a wonderful scent gently wafting through, Eastthorpe Hall would not look out of place in any home magazine feature. However, it holds a warmth and character that beckons you to immediately feel very much at home…

We are served a freshly made lunch of locally sourced ingredients with each dish introduced by the chef and ingredients explained for their various health giving qualities.

As we enjoy the stunning gardens and warm weather, we chat and devour the delicious food whilst quaffing crisp champagne. I discover almost everyone else there that day is a regular visitor, and all have high praise indeed for the spa, the staff and the standards of service…

…Put simply, there are people who run spas, and there are people who run spas, and then there are Stephanie and Sam.

Their care, devotion and attention to detail, in every respect, is of the finest, finest class.

From Diary of a Yorkshire Girl (September 2011)

There were 6 of us that went to Eastthorpe for various reasons. Most of the group suffer from chronic pain and this was a day for some relief and relaxation. There was one male and the staff could not have been more helpful.

They assessed whether treatments were suitable for each person as some had underlying medical conditions. Everyone was suprised how calming the place was, the lunch we had was healthy and there was plenty to choose from. The gardens we overlooked were serene.

I had an aqua detox along with 2 others. The colour of the water from my treatment was disgusting, it must be all my toxins! Then we had a paraffin hand treatment which left my hands like silk. After lunch i chose an indian head massage. I couldnt stop laughing afterwards, the therapist told me it affects people in different ways, it was fantastic. a great day that will be remembered for many years.

Just to inform all Wahanda visitors of the wonderful time I had at Eastthorpe Hall, as a hardened spa go-oer – they had a lot to live up to – I had researched them well and done my homework. I love the fact that this place isn’t stuffy and inpersonal, Truly, over and above, it surpassed my expectations. I can’t fault it – serioulsy, it was fabulous, everything from the minute I stepped through the door to a really warm welcome to the fond farewell, they really have got it right. I was fortunate enough to have my reflexology in the yurt in the grounds of the spa, the noise of the birds tweeting outside and the gentle trickling of the ponds was truly magical – I urge anyone who is into spa-ing to try them – it really is a must, I have been to all the biggies (conveyer belts) the other Yorkshire based ones (cheap as chips and dire) and I am gutted I have only just found this place – I truly can’t wait to go back!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Easthorpe and keep returning time and time again and i am never disappointed! The whole atmosphere and setting of the spa makes this a perfect place to relax and unwind. I love how they encourage you to leave your mobiles in your lockers and to not wear a watch! I also love the fact that it has kept the homely feel and doesn’t feel like all other spa’s and have the clinical feel to it.

The food is out of this world and never fails to have me salivating with anticipation of what cullinary delights i will be served. I usually visit Easthorpe with a friend who is a coelliac and she cannot believe the lengths that the chef goes to and the delicious “normal” food she can enjoy!

We have been lucky enough to be able to sit outside to enjoy our lunch and snacks and you feel like you are a million miles away from it’s location of Mirfield.

If they had rooms so that you could extend your stay this would be my perfect haven and i would NEVER want to leave!!

Love this… Eastthorpe Hall is the perfect setting for the perfect brow treatment and Sam is amazing! Complete attention to detail and has seriously transformed my eyebrows into a perfect shape and into a shape I didn’t know my brows could have! The best thing is, you can book in to have separate treatments as part of a gorgeous Spa experience and enjoy the most idyllic, relaxed atmosphere in this beautiful haven. Now I’m hooked and I won’t go anywhere else!

wahanda.com reader (October 2010)

Absolutely fantastic – Sam was brilliant and made me feel really at ease despite my nerves (as I’ve never had my brows done before in a spa)

Highly recommended – they still look fabulous 2 weeks later!!

Dear Sam

Just wanted to say thank you very much for a wonderful day yesterday – my partner and I really enjoyed our time with you and the team. I left a comment in the guest book but (stupidly) forgot to write compliments to the chef! The food was delicious and we both appreciated the separate dishes he created for us – so please pass on our thanks to Granville.

Once again thank you for making my birthday special and I hope to visit again soon.

Rachelle (February 2011)

Good afternoon Stephanie

I would just like to thank yourself and the wonderful staff you have at Eastthorpe.

I had the most amazing birthday treat on Sat 12th Feb this year. My friend Lorraine and I had a full afternoon pampering and I can honestly say I’ve never felt so relaxed and at ease. Lindsay my therapist was perfect, so considerate and gentle, and I had the best facial I have every had. The food was excellent too, every whim catered for, compliments to the Chef (especially the afternoon tea muffins)

I look forward to my next visit, and hopefully it will be for the full day … Once again thank you

Eastthorpe Hall to open second spa
08 May 2011
Professional Beauty Award-winning day spa Eastthorpe Hall is preparing to launch a second site in nearby Leeds.

The Potting Shed is scheduled to open in early June in Leeds’s Redbrick shopping centre.

Unlike Mirfield-based Eastthorpe Hall, which won PB’s Day Spa of the Year 2011 award in February, The Potting Shed will be a salon specialising in quick-fix essentials such as waxing and manicures, although some of the signature treatments from Eastthorpe will be adapted for the salon.

The salon will house two treatment rooms with face and body treatments using Elemis and Lava Shells, four mani/pedi stations using Nails Inc products and a large waiting area.

It will be decked out like a potting shed with plant pots and watering cans on the shelves sprouting seedlings and a treatment menu to fit. Signature treatments will include the Scythes and Shears manicure and waxing the promises to “prune and clip neglected hedges” with treatments including “Lady Garden, Borders Only”

Owner Sam Pearce said: “We’re aiming for a tongue-in-cheek, eclectic feel. Our gift vouchers will be called Hedge Funds and we’ll have a kids’ menu called saplings and seedlings.”

An award-winning day spa tucked away on an A-road between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, Eastthorpe Hall is a family-run Day Spa, converted from the owner’s family home into a true spa.

Guests are greeted by the fragrance of Indian incense gently burning away in oak pot-plant holders near the entrance to the house.

The owners and staff are the friendliest The SPA Traveller has encountered anywhere. On entering the spa, there’s a notice banning mobile phones, iPhones, Blackberries, computers and anything else that beeps or has a ring tone. I also noticed all clocks had been deliberately stopped.

Beige-robed visitors wander around the beautiful gardens or curl up in the lounge or by the heated indoor pool reading before and after treatments, or enjoy a quiet swim or steam box and sauna.

The restaurant, set in a cosy conservatory overlooking the gardens, was full of girlfriends and mother-daughter combinations all enjoying the tasty, yet healthy lunch and glasses of crisp cool champagne…

It wasn’t long before I joined the bleary-eyed relaxed brigade! A true hidden gem!

The Potting Shed wins first Customer at the Heart certification

Leeds salon The Potting Shed has become the first business to be awarded the “Customer at the Heart” certification of excellent customer service.

The certification scheme, developed by business consultancy Insight with Passion, has been launched to encourage and reward small and medium sized UK businesses in the retail and service sectors, for their treatment of, and positive attitude towards their clients.

The scheme invites consumers to pass on their comments about positive customer service experiences and nominate companies that give them special attention. Businesses with several nominations will then be “mystery shopped” by Insight with Passion and given a score for aspects such as the customer journey and the attitude and knowledge of the staff.

The Potting Shed Spa was recognised for its uplifting ambience, friendly and intuitive staff and little points of difference, such as retro TVs with a choice of DVDs to watch during pedicures.

The initiative aims to set a benchmark for SMEs to measure their customer service offer against other businesses and to encourage SMEs to raise their customer service standards.

Insight with Passion’s founding partner Kate Hardcastle said: “Customers are not loyal by nature and research shows that emotion influences purchase decisions six times more than rationale.

She added: “It’s therefore imperative that in this current economic climate companies ought to be striving to connect with their customers on an emotional level, which is something that can be achieved by delivering excellent customer service and is something which we feel ought to be rewarded when done well.”

The Potting Shed Spa’s owner Sam Pearce said: “The Potting Shed Spa has only been open a few weeks and has so much to live up to in respect of our sister business Eastthorpe Hall…We want our customers to know that when they enter The Potting Shed, our employees will work hard to welcome them and earn their trust whilst they enjoy a truly unique experience, and winning this award underpins that objective.”

“Spa of the week” – Eastthorpe Hall – West Yorkshire

Why is it so special:- ‘Set in a characterful converted country house and with a holistic approach to treatments, Eastthorpe Hall is truly special. Unique touches, real attention to detail and an unrivalled warm and personal service ensure a sense of wellbeing that will stay with you long after you leave!”

Star Magazine – November 2011

I am just writing to thank you all for the most fabulous day yesterday.

From the minute I arrived I was looked after as if I were an old friend. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the treatments divine, and the atmosphere calming. It was lovely not to have to think about the time, what I was supposed to be ‘doing next’ etc etc. I was able to completely switch off (literally, as I think I fell asleep in almost every room!).

Granville’s food was fantastic. I had recently lost my appetite and found it difficult to eat, but he presented dishes that really got me tucking in! Hang on to that man!

Please thank everyone again for the most perfect day.

“Don’t Tell Anyone But . . .”

Eastthorpe Hall is a truly amazing and not to be judged by its location.

We’ve been many times, and you can never have enough of Eastthorpe, fine indulgence of relaxation, treatments, massages and fine dining. The latter, is a bit of an contradiction to the health, but what the hec, you deserve it.

You can arrive stressed and drift out hours later, on cloud seventeen.

The Hall has an amazing atmosphere.

Our two top tips are, book full days rather than half; as more IS better. And, if you are travelling a distance, like we do, either get someone to pick you up after or stop over at a local hotel and drive home the next day. As driving when on cloud seventeen is not good for the sole.

But what ever you do, do not tell anyone else about Eastthorpe Hall, as the waiting list is long enough to get a space.
